Even though the specs are good, the fact that a 4 year old computer has fans running so loudly suggests that the laptop may no longer be able to handle it.
If you want a computer to livestream with a VTuber avatar, you actually need to carefully choose the specs. VTubing is a massive resource hog. Your computer has to run a game, track your face, animate a 2D or 3D avatar and broadcast the video to Twitch, YouTube or any livestreaming platform. All of that at the same time, so yes, your laptop is going to die like that, especially considering it's 4 years old.
I'd recommend for you to buy a computer tower, it's million times better than a laptop. The cons? It's not portable but who gives a shit. A computer tower won't overheat during long streams and you can easily plug in a second monitor, which you definitely need so you can see your game on one screen and your stream chat/OBS software on the other.
So, you should look for:
- Graphics Card (GPU): NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 or RTX 4060. Do not get an AMD card or basic integrated graphics. NVIDIA cards have a secret weapon called an NVENC encoder. This is a physical chip inside the card that handles the video streaming entirely on its own, so your stream stays crystal clear and your games don't lag.
- Processor (CPU): Intel Core i5 (12th Gen or newer) or an AMD Ryzen 5 (7000 series or newer).
- RAM: Definitely 32GB, 16GB is not bad but it is not recommended for everything you are going to do.
- Storage: 1TB NVMe SSD. Avoid old-school hard drives completely. An SSD makes your computer turn on in 5 seconds, and your personal files, software, and games will load instantly. 1TB gives you plenty of space for your avatar files and games.
The price of a complete setup (monitor, keyboard, mouse, headphones, etc.) would be around $1,300 if you are on a budget. This also depends on where you live, so prices may vary.
